Winning really isn't everything ....

The Liebert Trophy Final

The final was played on Sunday 21st September at the Albert Club in Didsbury, so Sue Liver reports ...

The sun shone all afternoon and it was a splendid high standard final played outside.

Our team was Elizabeth Rimmer, Sue Liver, Hayley Westley and Jane Jackson.

Super Jane played her left handed slice serve very well; Hayley in her designer blue dress 👗 ferociously hit her forehands; Lizzie was all over the net like a panther, while Sue was busy getting the Albert players on the run and out of position

Both pairs won a rubber and lost a rubber, yet overall on countback we lost by 1 set, which equates to only 8 points

The tennis chairman, Dave Holtby, came to support and take photos before the match.

The organiser, Chris Baron, presented the very old  trophy to the Albert team and provided the match balls

At tea afterwards we sat outside and ate tennis cup cakes specially made by one of the lady players at the Albert.

Next year we will aim to bring the trophy back to our Club!

Other squad players who contributed to us reaching the final are Rachael Hyland and Sue Kitto.  There are special rules stipulating that you can not play in the semi-final or final unless you have played in previous rounds.

I would also like to thank the team for their enthusiasm and support this year and also those other players who turned up to watch the matches.
