Junior Tennis at Northern
Blackburn Northern Junior Tennis Section – learn to play and compete in a friendly atmosphere
Blackburn Northern have a thriving junior tennis section that continues to grow and is an important part of our club. As a club we recognise our youth represent the future of our club and are to be carefully nurtured.
Our very experienced, qualified coach Jamie Hutchings delivers coaching sessions to all age groups and capabilities, from those starting as raw beginners, right through to those representing their county. The indoor courts in "the Dome" allow these sessions to continue throughout the year.
Blackburn Northern have three Junior Teams (A, B and C) representing the club in the Head East Lancashire Junior League. These teams play primarily on Saturday / Sunday mornings against other local club’s junior teams in their respective divisions. This gives the opportunity for those just starting to play their first competitive tennis matches : initially playing in the C team against juniors of a similar standard and then progressing over time through the teams as their tennis develops.
The format of the team matches allows each member of the team to play both a singles and a doubles rubber which is an important part of their development and brings a more social aspect to the whole experience. The matches are played in a friendly atmosphere with the emphasis on developing our junior’s skills rather than simply playing to win.
In recent years the club have also fielded teams in the Aegon tennis championships at a variety of age groups, giving the more advanced juniors the opportunity to play against clubs from slightly further afield.
The club have a very strong record of giving the best young junior players the opportunity to play in the Open Age leagues once they are ready and feel comfortable playing at that standard.
If your budding young tennis player (perhaps a future Andy Murray or Johanna Konta) is keen to learn to play tennis, then there really is no better place to start than Northern!
