19th March Important Message for BNSC Members

Dear Blackburn Northern member,

In the light of recent government announcements the club’s management committee took the decision earlier this week to close our Function Room.   We have now taken the decision to close the Members' Bar as of 5p.m. on Saturday 21st March, as keeping it open beyond that time is neither economical or practical. On Sunday and over the following days we will taking measures to reduce costs by closing down bar cellar equipment and beer lines.

The Members' Lounge will remain open for members to access toilet and wash facilities but this is an ever changing situation and will be kept under constant review.

The Junior Tennis coaching programme will also be suspended as from 4p.m. on Saturday 21st March.

We have been monitoring sport governing body advice as to whether we can continue to allow access to our tennis and squash playing facilities.     At the time of writing this e-mail the advice is that ‘recreational exercise that takes place at a safe distance from others and in safe exercise environments is something that can continue during this period’.     Therefore the tennis courts, indoor and outdoor, and the squash courts are open for use by members.    All members are encouraged to follow the widely available guidance of public health and social distancing.     Please be aware that as this is a fast moving situation and it is likely to change with very little notice, it is important to keep checking the club website for all the latest information."    Please click links below to the relevant pages on LTA and England Squash websites.    It is of course possible, if not likely, that this advice will change in the coming days and the availability of playing facilities will be kept under constant review.

The Management Committee will be making regular checks on the clubhouse for security purposes  and we are hoping to maintain a limited cleaning and maintenance regime to ensure that the building and contents do not deteriorate over the closure period.    This crisis has big financial implications for the Club but we are determined that all the facilities will be available to members again when restrictions are lifted.    At the moment, however, our main concern is the health and well-being of our club officials, volunteers and members.

The Club Treasurer will be sending out another e-mail in the coming days advising members of the financial position of the Club.

The Management Committee

Blackburn Northern
