BLACKBURN Northern Tennis Club have had another season to remember with the men’s first team completing a hat-trick of honours.

The multi talented team, led by Jamie Hutchings, stormed to county glory after beating St Annes in the final of the Roscoe Cup by five rubbers to one.

The victory completed a fantastic summer season for Blackburn Northern Men who comfortably topped Open Division One of the Slazenger East Lancashire League - without losing a single rubber - and successfully maintained their position in Division One of the National Club League.

The winning team also included Dean Moore, Charlie and George Hutchings, Ben Crichton and Josh Pye.

Blackburn Northern Ladies also had a good season but after winning the Liebert Rosebowl last year, they narrowly missed out on defending their county crown as they lost to Holcombe Brook in final.

As well as team success, there was also some individual glory for the Pleckgate club at the Lancashire County Championships.

Charlie and George Hutchings won the U18s Boys doubles while Stefania McPheely won the 50 and over Women’s Singles, beating fellow Blackburn Northern player Michelle Watts. But not to be outdone, Watts went on to win the doubles with Liz McCrae from Feniscowles Tennis Club.

And veteran Tom Baron also put the club on the map on the international stage when the 83-year-old represented Great Britain at the International Tennis Federation Super Seniors World Tennis Champion-ships in Croatia.

Tom a former Wimbledon umpire, captained the Men’s 80 and over GB team who finished ninth out of 13.
